The method comprises adding to the serum or plasma heparin in a buffer, and precipitating the resulting lipoprotein/heparin complex at the isoelectric point at a pH of 5.05 to 5.25, and subsequently removing it or analyzing the precipitate or the filtrate for diagnostic purposes. A device for extracorporeal precipitation of blood constituents has a container into which blood or blood constituents are fed from a patient via a first pump, and has a filter which is downstream of the container and whose filtrate outlet is connected to a line returning to the patient, where the filter has a second outlet for the precipitate, which outlet is connected to a line returning to the container, where the container is connected via a second pump to the outlet of a first vessel containing a treatment agent, and where the filtrate outlet of the filter is connected to a third pump whose delivery capacity essentially corresponds to the total delivery capacities of the first and second pumps; another method comprises adding to the serum or plasma polyanions in a buffer, and precipitating the resulting lipoprotein/polyanion complex at the isoelectric point at a pH of 5.05 to 5.25, and subsequently removing it or analyzing the precipitate or the filtrate for diagnostic purposes.
