CONSOLIDATION OF HIGH PURITY SILICON POWDERABSTRACT OF THE INVENTIONImporved crucible shotting method to consolidatethe ultrafine powder available from the homogeneouspyrolysis of silane. High purity ultrafine, low bulkdensity, high surface area, easily contaminated powderis converted into a high purity silicon shot materialthat has good handling characteristics.A particular embodiment includes the use of aquartz crucible to contain melted silicon powder andthe resultant silicon melt passes through one or moresuitable apertures in the bottom of the quartz crucibleto form discrete molten droplets.
