Thepresent invention solves this process disabling aggregateformation by treating such agglomerates in apreconditioning chamber(s) (11, 21, 31, 41) prior tosupplying them into a vertical bed (3) so as to precludeserious aggregate formation in either the preconditoner orthe vertical bed. Such treatment is employed inmanufacturing glass with a fossil fuel fired melter or anelectrically operated melter.
