The continuous current switch for short-circuiting at least one superconducting magnetic winding contains at least two contact pieces, each of which has a plurality of superconducting conductor pieces which are arranged in parallel with one another and connected to a carrier element and are cooled by a cryogenic coolant, and an actuating device for joining the superconducting conductor pieces to one another with a predetermined contact force. In order to ensure contact resistances, as required for large superconducting magnets, the invention provides that the superconducting conductor pieces (5, 6) are arranged lying on the mutually facing surfaces of the contact pieces (2, 3) in at least largely parallel planes, that the conductor pieces (5) of the first contact piece (2) cross the conductor pieces (6) of the further contact piece (3), and that the conductor pieces (5) of the first contact piece (2) are firmly attached to the surface of the corresponding carrier element (4) are while each conductor piece (6) of the further contact piece (3) is held at least above each crossing point (7) with the conductor pieces (5) of the first contact piece (2) by means of a resilient support device (9) on the associated carrier element (8).
