A selective safety cut-out system in preceded by a main fuse and is used to disconnect certain sections in a network. There is a safety switch in the main line in series with the fuse. It has a given triggering characteristic. It then branches to the consumer line with its own safety switch and with a second triggering characteristic at a level below that of the first. The safety cut-out switch(30) in the main line is made with two bimetallic devices(48, 50). One of the devices is assigned to the rated current of the safety switch of the main line and the other to a current below the rated current. Part of the current is diverted from the less sensitive bimetallic device to the more sensitive one via a change-over switch(42) when the current exceeds a given level.
