The invention relates to a process and equipment for producing synthesis gas from bituminous coal or lignite, water and oxygen, in which the gasifier is fed with wet coal, namely as a mixture containing coal and water in the ratio required for the gasification process. In order to be able to carry out such a gasification process even under the most difficult environmental conditions and to produce a high-grade synthesis gas, it is proposed according to the invention that the mixture contains an additive which consists to the extent of 0 to 100% of methanol, the remainder being lime and/or dolomite.
