The present invention relates to the use of 3-methyl-1-[2-(2-naphthyloxy)ethyl]-2-pyrazolin-5-one ("nafazatrom") as lipoxygenase inhibitor, for preventing and treating ischaemias, especially myocardial infarcts following myocardial ischaemias, cardiac dysrhythmias, rheumatic, allergic and asthmatic disorders, pulmonary embolisms and oedemas (especially pulmonary oedemas), pulmonary hypertension, oxygen intoxication and ulceration. The invention also relates to lipoxygenase-inhibiting, bronchodilating, antiarrhythmic, antiischaemic, antirheumatic, antiallergic, antiasthmatic, antioedemic, antihypertensive and gastroprotective pharmaceutical compositions which are characterised by containing a therapeutically effective amount of nafazatrom.
