The invention relates to a concentric, hollow-cylindrical or toroidal NMR probe which is rotated around the axis of rotational symmetry which has, in turn, a perpendicular component with respect to the external magnetic field. The probe can be used cost-advantageously in any high-resolution NMR spectrometer and is used in research and material testing for measuring diamagnetic and paramagnetic bulk susceptibility, inter alia for detecting material flaws. The rotation of the probe provides a first-order separation of the residual inhomogeneities in the external magnetic field from the NMR measurement signal. The absolute measurement precision thereby achieved of 10-10 cgs units is comparable with, or better than, other contemporary techniques. The measuring probe is optimised for the material to be measured by suitable choice of the susceptibility of the probe wall material.
