In a liquid-liquid extraction column, a method of destroying a coating formed on the column components which comprises transmitting ultrasonic energy from a transmitter to the central rod of the column and/or the liquid being extracted through the wall of the column, the coating being destroyed by ultrasonic bubble cavitation, the column components being equidistantly spaced apart and the sound intensity at the components being substantially equal.
