PURPOSE:To maintain the function of an automatically regenerable hard water softening apparatus securely by sensing the electric resistance of ion exchange resin/water system and confirming the extent of regeneration and deterioration of the ion exchange resin. CONSTITUTION:Two pairs of electrode A10, B11 are provided with an optional distance to the upstream side and down stream side of a resin/water system in a resin cylinder 2. A comparator A13 connected to the two pairs of the electrode A, B and a control valve 3 with a signal wire 12 reads the difference between the electric resistance of the two pairs of the electrode A, B synchronously with the regeneration finishing signal, or water feed (completion of softening of feed water) permitting signal from a control valve 3, stores the difference S1, and continues measurement of the difference S2 between the electric resistance of the two pairs of the electrode A, B during feeding water. At the time when the comparison value of S1 and S2 exceeds a set value M, a resin exchanging timing signal is outputted. By this method, regeneration and deterioration of the ion exchange resin are confirmed and the function of an automatically regenerable hard water softening apparatus is securely maintained.
