The mechanism checks plugs holding brush bristles in place for looseness. It comprises clamps (18,20,21) enclosing the plug (28) on the brush (27). After gripping the plug, the clamps are moved to exert a force on it in its lengthwise direction and away from the brush body. - The clamps have recesses sufficiently large for a plug to be inserted between them when open. One of the clamps can be arranged to move freely between the other two.
