The installation for producing a fibre web comprises a vessel for mixing fibres with water, a fibre suspension line (4) from the vessel to a diffuser (20), and a diffuser outlet duct (6) connecting to a moving screen which passes water to a receptacle below. The diffuser comprises a laterally diverging rectangular-section duct (20) contg. a number of longitudinally diverging baffles (21), the angle of divergence (alpha) between adjoining baffles and between the outer baffles and the duct side walls pref. being less than 7 deg. Near the duct (6), the diffuser pref. contains vortex generators (23). The duct (20) may be upwardly inclined, the rise in metres pref. being at least 0.05 V2 where V = inlet flow velocity in m/sec.
