Process for producing a hollow object with curved shape, for example a helical spring, from plastic reinforced with fibre material, the fibre material being applied to a flexible mandrel (1) which is dimensionally stable in the radial direction, the mandrel with the applied fibre material being bent into the shape intended for the object, plastic being fed to the fibre material before or after bending of the mandrel and the fibre material with the plastic being converted into a coherent stable unit on the bent mandrel. According to the invention, the mandrel used is a pipe or tube consisting of a strip (2) of metal or plastic which is constructed and helically wound with an overlapping of parts (2d, 2b, 2e, 2a) of the strip such that the overlapping parts of adjacent windings are movable with respect to one another in the longitudinal direction of the mandrel or pipe.
