2,4-Dichlorophenylimidazolyl ethanones or ethanols of the general formula IMAGE in which A represents a keto group or a CH(OH) group, X represents halogen, alkyl, or optionally substituted phenyl, and n represents zero or an integer from 1 to 3, and their physiologically tolerated salts, are therapeutically active and are obtained by reacting a compound of the formula II with imidazole. Surprisingly, the active compounds according to the invention demonstrate better antimycotic, therapeutically useful, activity than do the phenoxyimidazolyl derivatives known from the state of the art, which derivatives are the most closely related compounds from the point of view of their chemistry and the nature of their effect.
