Method for preparing single crystals of red mercury(II) iodide

Single crystals of red alpha -mercury(II) iodide can be prepared from its solution in tetrahydrofuran by isothermal solvent removal. The advantages of this method compared to previous methods are found in the simpler apparatus used, higher growth rate, simple control of supersaturation and growth rate, and in the possibility of doping the crystals.
