A gas-discharge display device having a post-deflection acceleration space, and a method for its production. In a picture screen, in which electrons are drawn from a plasma, are accelerated after deflection to a plurality of kV and are finally guided onto a fluorescent screen, the maintaining voltage increases with increasing operating time. In order to prevent this disturbing effect it is proposed to coat the post-deflection acceleration cathode (14) with a graphite layer (22). The proposal is based on the finding that this pressure loss occurs because gas ions are produced on the post-deflection acceleration path and are implanted in the post-deflection acceleration cathode (14). The graphite layer (22) causes the voltage increase to be delayed and to stop at a lower level. A graphite sludge, which is provided with a bonding agent, is preferably sprayed on to produce said graphite layer.
