Single-chip computer as local network controller and computer

Using single-chip computers as computers and as local network controllers allows, on the one hand, the characteristics of the network controller to be defined under software control and to be adapted for the individual type of communication and, on the other hand, allows single-chip computers to be connected via a local communication network without interposing other complex hardware chips. The software of the network controller determines the type of the collision check, of the line-idle test and its test duration which determines the priority of line access, of the protocol used, of the data protection, of the response in the case of a transmit collision, of the transmission of commands for data branching, detection of broadcast messages, for triggering a response or acknowledgement, of the reaction to an interrupt with higher priority than the local network controller. A solution is specified for each software module of the network controller, others are possible. In addition, the single-chip computer handles other software-controlled tasks.
