The appliance serves for breaking up ground used for planting with a probe by which compressed air can be introduced violently into the ground via a quick-closing valve and substrate can be introduced into the ground via an injection valve. The quick-closing valve is arranged in the upper region and the injection valve in the lower region of an intermediate container for the substrate. The quick-closing valve is followed by an injector tube having a compressed-air outlet. With the quick-closing valve opened, the injector tube can be lifted off from an injection-valve seat of the intermediate container in order to open the injection valve. The quick-closing valve is coupled, for opening and closing, to the piston of a pneumatic cylinder and the injector tube is coupled via a lifting rod to the lifting piston of a compressed-air cylinder. Moreover, the injector tube is connected via an air line to a dynamic-pressure chamber colimited by the lifting piston and belonging to the compressed-air cylinder, in such a way that only after a substantial pressure drop of the compressed air breaking up the ground in the probe and in the injector tube can the latter be lifted off from the injection-valve seat as the result of an axial displacement of the lifting piston for the time-delayed opening of the injection valve.
