In a method for insulating a masonry structure with respect to moisture, insulating material in the form of a moisture-tight sheet is introduced into slots in the masonry work, which are prefabricated in steps for this purpose and run essentially horizontally. According to the invention, after producing in each case one such slot, a layer of mortar is applied to the previously cleaned masonry-structure top or foundation top, delimiting the slot on the underside, and is roughly screeded. After this layer of mortar has set, the moisture-tight sheet is laid on the rough surface of this layer and, finally, the remaining slot space is filled with concrete or the like, while compressing and compacting.
