The cartridge includes two spools (2,3) mounted in the cassette to turn but not move radially. The ink ribbon (4) leaves the cassette along the side of the cassette (A), passing through the printing position B, and returns via a roller (5). The ribbon passes over an elastic guide (6) which acts to tension the ribbon. In the plane lying between the two spools there is a shaft (7) which serves as a support for the pivoting mounting of the ribbon brake (9). The brake comprises a two-armed lever of elastic material, with an eyelet (9) partially enclosing the shaft (7). The two arms (10,11) act on the ribbon on the two spools (12,13). The levers may lie in a range of positions according to the quantity of tape on each of the two spools.
