METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR EXCHANGING TOOL OF HORIZONTAL PRESS

PURPOSE:To simply, easily, and quickly exchange the tool of a horizontal press so as to improve the production efficiency of the press, by moving a tool fitted to a guide means provided in the head of the horizontal press by means of a clamper in the direction, in which the tool is separated from the head, through the guide means. CONSTITUTION:When the tool 7 of a horizontal press 1 which performs press working by reciprocating a press head 2 in the directions shown by the arrows after the tool 7 is fixed to a guide means 5 provided in the head 2 by means of the clamper 19 of a clamping device 17 is exchanged, the rear end section of the rod 20 of the clamping device 17 is contacted with a fixed stopper 21 by moving the head 2 backward to the backmost position and the engagement between the clamper 19 and tool 7 is released against a spring 18. Then the tool 7 is lifted up and moved to guide means 5, 4, and 3 by means of a lifter 13 engaged with a guide means 6. Thereafter, the guide means 3 is turned by 90 deg. around a pin 8 and the hook 7a of the tool 7 is engaged with the hook 15 of a cylinder 14 and the tool 7 is moved onto a guide frame body 16, and then, the tool 7 is taken out. The new tool replacing the old tool is mounted in the opposite way.
