NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I[X is (CH2CH2OH)2;A is CH2CH2O or OCH2CH2OCH2CH2O; the group of formula II is formula III or formula IV]. USE:It is soluble both in water and oil, and the solution of the compound had depressed freezing point and increased boiling point. It has no corosivity and toxicity, etc. and is available at a low cost. Useful as an ultra-low temperature antifreezing agent for the protection of concerete from freezing or as a component of an antifreezing liquid for engine, etc. PREPARATION:Ethylene glycol or diethylene glycol is made to react successively with (A) a halogenated urea, (B) glycerol dichlorohydrin, (C) diethanolamine, (D) the compound B, (E) N,N,2,2-tetramethylpropane-1,3-diamine or N-methyl isobutylamine, (F) the compound B, and (G) the compound E, to obtain the objective compound of formula I.
