PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of defective works due to defective feeding of rivets by detecting the movement of said pin in a caulking machine having a pin movable back to guide a rivet to an anvil corresponding to a stem freely movable reciprocally. CONSTITUTION:After a work 45 is fed to the prescribed postion of between a stem 4 of a ascending position and an anvil 29 of in a descending position the anvil 29 is ascended and a guide pin 30 is positioned in the prescribed working place of the work 45. On the other hand a rivet 10 is fed and held by a chuck claw 20 and the stem 4 separates the rivet 10 from the claw 20 with the descent of a vertical moving lever 5 and also the pin 30 is descended with the rivet 10 being brought into contact with the pin 30. Simultaneously the rivet 10 is guided to the inside of the work 45 and caulked with the tip of the rivet 10 reaching the anvil 29. A pin 32 for detecting thereunder is also descended with the descent of the pin 30 and the lower end is detected by a detecting sensor 34. If there is any defective feed and shortage in length of the rivet 10 the pin 32 is not descended to the prescribed position and the detection is possible.
