NEW MATERIAL:A polysaccharide RIN substance containing glucose as the sole sugar-constituent component, composed solely of alpha-bond, and having the following characteristics. (i) Recurring unit, formula I and/or formula II (G is alpha-D- glucopyranosyl; n+n'=4); (ii) impermeable to dialyzing membrane; (iii) insoluble in alcohol, acetone, hexane, benzene, carbon tetrachloride, ethyl acetate, and ether, and soluble in water, formamide, and dimethylsulfoxide; (iv) 1% aqueous solution exhibits neutral nature; (v) contains a small amount of inorganic substance in bonded state; (vi) specific rotation, [alpha]D20=+142 deg.-+145 deg. (H2O), etc. USE:Antitumor agent, immuno-regulating agent, and preventive and remedy for infectious diseases. PREPARATION:Rice bran is extracted with hot water (with 5-10 times volume of water under 0-3.0kg/cm2 pressure and 100-140 deg.C) and the extracted liquid is mixed with a polar organic solvent or a salting-out agent. The produced precipitate is collected, and if necessary purified to obtain the objective RIN substance.
