PURPOSE:To eliminate the mixing of air with a slurry when a stirring blade is drawn up after defoaming and mixing, in a vacuum defoaming and mixing machine, by supporting a cover through the lift means for moving the stirring blade up and down with respect to said cover. CONSTITUTION:A slurry is charged in a mixing tank 12 and a first lift apparatus 18 is contracted to allow a cover 14 to close the mixing tank 12. A second lift apparatus 34 is also held under a contracted state and a stirring blade 44 is inserted into the slurry within the mixing tank 12. In this state, a vacuum pump is operated to evacuate the mixing tank 12 and a hydraulic motor 30 is operated to rotate the stirring blade 44 through a stirring shaft 40 to perform mixing and defoaming. After the completion of defoaming and mixing, the second lift apparatus 34 is operated while the mixing tank 12 is held under vacuum, and the stirring shaft 40 and the stirring blade 44 are drawn up. In this state, the stirring shaft 40 and the stirring blade 44 are held for a proper time to drip the liquid adhered to both of them.
