Each station in the system consists of a transmitter/receiver (SEND/REC) with a common control computer (CC) and a station clock circuit (CL). The station is connected to the packet switching network (PSN) via an input/output bus (SMB) and a network access interface (NAI). Incoming signals on the bus are stored in an erasable memory (EM2), the output of which is fed to a buffer unit (BU) and to a packet recognition circuit (PRC). - The recognition circuit causes a timer (TC) and packet search circuit (PSC) to read the data from the buffer (BU) via a packet disassembly circuit (DPA) to a user circuit (UC). Data from the user circuit (UC) are fed to the computer (CC) and a packet assembly unit (PA) which feeds outgoing packages to an erasable memory circuit (EM1).
