2-[N-(2-Hydroxyethyl)-N-lower alkylamino methyl]-benzhydrols of formula IMAGE in which R denotes a methyl or ethyl group, X denotes a fluorine, chlorine or bromine atom or a methyl group, Y denotes a fluorine or chlorine atom or a methyl or methoxy group and m and n each denote 0, 1 or 2, are prepared by reducing a compound of formula III in the presence of an alkanoic acid with sodium borohydride in an inert solvent.
