The process for generating low-sulphur gas from finely ground carbonaceous solids with oxygen or oxygen-containing gas and steam as gasifying agents in powder gasification is characterised in that the powder gasification products are largely desulphurised and cooled by means of a fluidised bed of inert materials, liquid and pasty fractions are separated off, cooled and solidified, and the sensible heat removed from the gasification products and the latent heat are utilised for the overall process and/or other purposes; also a generator for carrying out the process.
