HOMOLOGATION OF LOWER ALCOHOLS IN A FISCHER-TROPSCH PROCESS

A process is described for forming an alcohol fraction boiling in the range of motor gasoline that is enriched in higher alcohols. The process comprises reacting (1) hydrogen, (2) carbon monoxide, (3) a heterogenous catalyst having (a) a first component of molybdenum, tungsten, or a mixture thereof in free or combined form; and (b) a second component comprising an alkali or alkaline earth element, or a mixture thereof in free or combined form; and (4) one or more lower alcohols.
