Use of superoxide dismutase (SOD) as an agent for the protection of the skin against inflammatory reactions associated with chemical irritation and acne. Topical application of SOD in a formulation attenuates dermal injury associated with the induction of reactive oxygen species by a wide variety of chemical irritants, associated with inflammation, and associated with acne.
