Process for the preparation of o-alkyl 5-(alpha ramified alkyl)alkyl phosphonothioates

A process for preparing an O-alkyl S (alkyl branched alpha) alcoylphosphonothioate of the formula: with R and R ₁ = alkyl of 1 to 8C R ₂ = alcoye branched alpha, 3 to 8 C. It comprises reacting an O-alkyl alkyl phosphonic acid halide with an alkyl mercaptan HSR ₂ in organic medium, in the presence of an acid acceptor and a minor amount of an auxiliary base. A method useful for the preparation of insecticides and nematicides.
