Process for producing shaped ceramic articles

Shaped ceramic articles of high hardness and isotropy are produced under simple conditions by obtaining the alpha-alumina monohydrate having a surface area, measured in BET, of more than 330 to 980 m2/g, by hydrolysis of aluminium alcoholate.
