The liq. flows through an insulating pipe, (1). Two magnets (21, b) of which at least one is an electromagnet, generate magnetic field transverse to the pipe, and two electrodes inside the pipe collect voltage generated by charge drift. Magnetic field distribution in the flow cross-section, considered as stationary, is varied, and a signal is derived from the varying measurement voltages, corresp. to the flow to be measured. When the position of magnets and electrode relative to the pipe is fixed, effective magnetisation of the electromagnet is changed in order to obtain at least two measurement voltages.
