A large-sized monolithic reflector body of a reflector telescope is produced of a plurality of small material bodies or single elements which are successively assembled and connected to one another and which in each case have less than 10-4 of the mass of the monolithic reflector body. The joint can be generated, for example, by fusing or welding. Compared with the previously used production methods, it is possible to produce, among others, reflector bodies for very large reflector telescopes much more inexpensively and with much shorter delivery times, in a more simple manner and in any desired quality of homogeneity and almost any desired shape even at the installation site so that, in particular, transportation and erection costs are also considerably reduced.
