For detecting traffic density, it is known to embed copper wires as induction loops in ducts. The copper wires, which are protected by corresponding coverings, are subsequently covered with a quartz sand layer and for the most part secured with wooden wedges against rising up. The ducts which are cut into the roadway surface are then sealed with hot bitumen. Moreover, it is known to lay copper layers on roadway surfaces and to seal them with plastic. Problems arise in this case, however, in particular in the region of joints as these cannot be bridged without further action. The invention envisages firstly applying a support layer 13 onto the roadway surface 11, then spraying on the conductor layer 15 and finally sealing the conductor layer 15 with a protective covering 14 made of a plastic corresponding to the material of the support layer 13. If the conductor layer 15 is to be applied directly onto the roadway surface 11, there are provided in the region of joints limitedly elastic connection pieces which can be oversprayed without problems. The conductor layer 15 can moreover be used as a heating layer, as a guide track or as a humidity identification layer. IMAGE
