The warhead has a number of sub-projectiles dispersed above the objective zone, each comprising a parachute and a steered explosive charge. Each of the latter carries a target sensor which is sharply inclined towards the bottom during the drop after launching of the sub-projectile. The sensor rotates about the suspension axis of the parachute to scan the ground in a spiral pattern in order to detect the target and initiate detonation so that the effect is directed downwards towards the least protected part of the target. Pref. the sub-projectiles are dispersed by aerodynamic forces after the warhead is split into parts by detonation of binding cords. Each sub-projectile pref. also incorporates a proximity fuse for determining the altitude above the ground to allow the target sensor signals to initiate detonation. The warhead allows an armoured target to be struck at the least protected position.
