After possible filtering 2, an analog signal containing digital portions of the bipolar RTZ type is applied to a level discriminator 3. One of the outputs of the level discriminator delivers a signal B which, after shaping 4, is applied to a register 6. The two output signals B and C from the discriminator are united to form a square-wave signal D. The latter is applied on the one hand to a down-counter 8, preadjusted to the number of bits of the register 6. On the other hand, it feeds two reversible up-counters 11 and 12 in a direct and complemented way. These latter detect the presence of a precursor word, after which they allow the shift register 6 to receive one or more message words, the bits of which are counted by the down-counter 8. IMAGE
