Process for simultaneous desalting and deasphalting of heavy hydrocarbon oils

New simultaneous process for deasphalting and desalting heavy hydrocarbon oils applicable particularly to very dense and very viscous crude oils, consisting in forming an emulsion of oil 1 in water 2 in which the continuous phase is water and in bringing this emulsion 4 into contact with a sufficient quantity of deasphalting solvent 5 to form two separate phases which are separated 9 and 10. The upper phase 9 consists of a mixture of deasphalted and desalted oil and of deasphalting solvent. The lower phase 10 consists essentially of a suspension of asphalts in water, which can be easily pumped. IMAGE
