A hopper assembly for use with a solid fuel fired boiler having an underfeed stoker comprises a hopper 2 of frusto-conical form and having an inlet 6 for the fuel and an outlet 10 from which extends a tube 12 terminating above an opening 14 of a casing 4 surrounding the hopper. A vent 8 is provided in the casing 4 for allowing the venting of air therethrough rather than via the feed screw (not shown) of the underfeed stoker. IMAGE
