Poly(vinyliminomethylene) from vinyl isocyanide

Poly(vinyliminomethylene) homopolymers and copolymers, the homopolymer having the formula: ##EQU1## wherein R and R', which are the same or different, are each hydrogen, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl group or a C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 cycloalkyl group which is unsubstituted or substituted by lower alkyl or alkoxy groups, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkenyl or a C.sub.5 - C.sub.7 cycloalkenyl group which is unsubstituted or substituted by lower alkyl or alkoxy groups, a phenyl group or naphthyl group which is unsubstituted or substituted by lower alkyl or alkoxy groups, with the proviso that at least one of R and R' be a substituent other than hydrogen; R" is hydrogen; and n has a value such that the molecular weight is in the range of about 2,000 to 400,000. The polymers are useful in the manufacture of electroconductive articles.
