PRODUCTION OF GRANULAR ALLOY BY THERMIT METHOD

PURPOSE:To obtain granular alloy particles which are free from sticking of slag on the surface and have no oxide films with good degassing by dropping a molten alloy obtd. by a thermit method onto the smooth surface of a moving metallic sheet in an inert gaseous atmosphere and under the reduced pressure and successively soldifying the molten alloy by quick cooling. CONSTITUTION:The inside of a dropping hole 15 of a vessel 13 for receiving a molten metal is closed by an Al plate 38. Granular materials of V2O5 and Al are mixed and are thrown into a reaction furnace 10 and further a slag forming agent is thrown thereto in the case of producing, for example, an Al-V alloy. The air in the vessel 13 is substd. with an inert gas such as Ar and after the inside of a reduced pressure vessel 17 is similarly substd. with gaseous Ar, the pressure therein is reduced and maintained. The molten alloy is obtd. when the alloy raw materials in the furnace 10 are subjected to the thermit reaction. Such molten alloy is rested still to allow the slag to separate. The plate 28 is melted by the molten metal when the molten metal is successively taken out into the vessel 13. The molten metal is successively dropped from the hole 15 onto a rotary table 21. The dropped grains are successively quickly cooled and solidified to =30mm, more perferably =10mm on the receiving surface without allowing the grains to weld to each other. The grains are then scrapped from said surface by a scraper 23.
