PURPOSE:To improve corrosion resistance sharply by coating the surface of a metallic wire or a metallic plate which is a pressure resisting tube element for a submarine optical fiber cable with a Ni or Ni alloy plated layer of 0.1-10mum thickness. CONSTITUTION:As shown in the section part of the pressure resisting tube element for the submarine optical fiber cable, the metallic wire or the metallic plate 7 to be a core is coated with the Ni or Ni alloy plated layer 8 of 0.1-10mum thickness. Consequently, the necessary strength of the optical fiber reinforcing material can be held and the metallic part can be prevented from the generation of hydrogen gas due to the corrosion reaction of metal even if sea water is infiltrated into the submarine optical fiber cable. Since the ionization tendency of the Ni or Ni alloy film is low as compared to that of Al or the like constituting the metallic wire or the metallic plate to be the core, the film can protect the core material effectively.
