Exhaust gas turbocharger on a supercharged diesel engine with a separate power turbine (6', 6") and means (8', 9, 8") for putting it out of operation characterized in that the supercharger turbine (3', 3") connected to the exhaust gas receiver (5) of the diesel engine (1) is provided with a turbine area optimized for part load and that the power turbine (6', 6") is put out of operation at a preselected part load of the engine.
