It is known to heat the aspired air before it passes through chemisorption masses and to cool it down again after it has passed through, in order to utilise it as purified breathing air at tolerable temperatures. The heating and cooling take place by means of Peltier elements (2), whose upper sides are covered by a heat exchanger plate (1) which is to be heated and whose undersides are covered by a heat exchanger plate (3) which serves for cooling down. To prevent the cold plate (3) from significantly contracting as compared with the hot plate (1) within the working range, it is proposed according to the invention that the cold plate (3) is made continuous and the hot plate (1) is divided at least twice. The hot plate (1) can have different divisions and can be formed as a block unit by joining the upper to the lower heat exchanger plate. IMAGE
