The circuit converts DC to AC by using a commutation capacitor in series with the primary winding of a transformer connected in the forward current path of one or both of at least two SCRs for reverse-biassing the SCRs on commutation. Diodes connected in antiparallel with each SCR pass the reverse current. The output AC current flows through the secondary winding to control charge and discharge currents of the capacitor flowing through the primary winding. The transformer may be an autotransformer connected across the SCR and a load, and a tap is connected to the capacitor.
