PURPOSE:To enable printing of a character having the same size as a Japanese character which can be recognized through an OCR device, by providing a generator of handwritten character being used for optical character recognition based on an information exchange code inputted from a computer. CONSTITUTION:Upon receipt of a Japanese character code from a host computer, a control circuit 3 sends the Japanese character code to a character buffer 5 so as to retrieve a character information in a Japanese character font memory 6 and controls a character generator 4 so that a Japanese character data is contained in a letter form buffer 7. When a letter form data of handwritten OCR character corresponding to a given Japanese character code is not defined, the Japanese character font memory 6 is retrieved to store the letter form data of the Japanese character into the letter form buffer 7. The control circuit 3 controls a print head driver 8 and a motor driver 9 synchronously with the output from the letter form buffer 7, and makes print of a handwritten OCR character or a Japanese character.
