PURPOSE:To achieve a quick real-time detection of the propagation direction and the level of a sound wave, by computing and combining output signals from 4 pairs of sensors set at an equal angle therebetween. CONSTITUTION:A sound is detected with 4 pairs of sensors 11 and 12, 13 and 14, 15 and 16 and 17 and 18 arranged with sensing lines set at an equal angle of 45 deg. therebetween. One pair each of detection outputs of the sensors are supplied sequentially into an intensity computing circuit 7 to calculate the direction of intensity of a source sound and furthermore, the results of calculation are computed and combined to determine the intensity and absolute direction of the source sound, which are shown on a display section 4. The use of several pairs of sensors eliminates the need for rotating a pair of sensors by 180 deg. thereby enabling quick real-time detection of the propagation direction and the level of a sound wave accurately free from effect of a sound or the like generated with the rotation of the sensors.
