Method and device for identifying the polarity of polarized capacitors

To detect the polarity of polarized capacitors (K), their capacitance is measured with an alternating voltage (Uw), which is superimposed on one positive DC voltage (+ Uv) and one negative DC voltage (-Uv) of the same amount. Since a polarized capacitor (K) has a smaller capacitance when the polarity is correct than when the polarity is incorrect, the polarity of the capacitor (K) can be deduced from the difference between the two measured capacitances. With the described method, the polarity of tantalum or aluminum electrolytic capacitors can be recognized, in particular when automatically assembling printed circuit boards or ceramic substrates.
