An activatable hatch cover seal comprising an inflatable and evacuable hose on the hatch cover and an abutment-rib fastened to the coaming is distinguished by the fact that a flexible sealing strip of an oil-resistant material seals the hose liquid-impermeably. Arranged in parallel with this seal there is preferably a second seal, which may be a flexible solid seal, and with the first seal closes off a space which on the one hand can be used as a testing space and on the other hand from which seepage can be drained away.
