The closing device is for hatches of cargo ships carrying minerals or bulk materials. It has closing panels mounted on wheels and moved by chains or racks moving on rails fixed parallel to raised hatchway edges. Seals for the hatch are in the form of soft strips (11) of rubber forming a skirt. This is fixed at its top on the panel (2) edges (2a) and parallel to them. The lower part presses on an edge (10) on its flat part (6). There are skirt stops (9) to keep the seal in position.
